December 21st, 2019
An incredible morning I will never forget was on December 21, 2019.
My labor began in the early hours of the morning, but I wasn’t completely sure it was true labor. However, by about seven that morning, I was pretty positive our baby was on his or her way. My husband and I waited a little while to call our midwife Jennifer just to make sure things were progressing forward at a steady pace.
We actually almost waited too long, but Jennifer was amazing over the phone as she was driving to our house and coaching me through intense contractions! Things ended up moving much faster than we expected, and at this point in my labor, I was so ready to push and have our baby. Jennifer, though, even over the phone, kept me calm and breathing perfectly to give my body enough time to stretch and make way for our baby and just enough time for her to arrive! Our little one was definitely not waiting long to make his or her debut.
When Jennifer arrived, she was such a relief, comfort and pillar-of-strength for me, and I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful midwife. She also had an assistant & friend of hers come to aid at the birth, and she was great as well! She actually was a nurse and could help Jennifer with certain procedures. Jennifer immediately got to work on making sure I was as comfortable as possible and doing her best to smooth the way for our baby’s speedy entrance into the world.
A couple of times I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore, but with the love and support of my husband, mom and Jennifer and her words and actions towards me, I was able to deliver a beautiful, healthy baby girl a few minutes later! It was such an incredible moment, and I could not hold back some tears of joy.
Even though this was our 4th baby, and I obviously had plenty of experience giving birth before, having a homebirth with Jennifer was wonderful and one of the best decisions I have ever made! I wish she could have delivered my other three children as well. Baby Katherine was soon in my arms, and we were able to bond so sweetly as Jennifer took care of us both.
I had some trouble delivering my placenta, but even then, she stayed calm and did a great job with getting my body to finally release the placenta safely. After the delivery of our baby and the placenta, we were able to relax, enjoy and spend time with our new, darling baby girl and bond as a whole family, including Jennifer!
This was truly a magnificent experience for me, and I am so grateful to God, my family and Jennifer! I hope that many other women will choose a homebirth for themselves and their baby and use Jennifer as their midwife. Not only was her care of my baby and me wonderful, but all my prenatal care was so well provided for too!
